“It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.”
1 Peter 2:15-16
There are a lot of people who run around trying to “find themselves” or “live free”. A lot of those people are the very same people who allow things like toxic relationship, drug dependancy, bad choices, and a host of other things stop them from finding true freedom.
I tell people all the time: everyone of us are chained to something. Our past, our friends, our choices, our significant other, our family, our DNA, etc etc. The significant turning point comes when we realize that we can chose what we chain ourselves too for the most part. You didn’t choose you family or your DNA, but you do get to choose how you respond.
I speak to a lot of people who say things like, “God is just a set of rules”. In reality the God of creation, the God of Christianity is a very inclusive God. He makes space at the table for everyone. If you have ever been made to feel like there is no space at God’s table for you, hear me, that’s not God. That’s man interpreting for God who God should allow to dinner. God wants the absolute best for his creation.
If I were raising children (and I have two so I know a small bit about raising children) and I love them, yet refuse to put boundaries in their life at certain key timelines in their development I wouldn’t be much of a parent. Most likely wouldn’t be allowed to be a parent for long either, the state would step in. God has the same best interest in mind during his relationship with us. It’s not the God is an extentsion of the NFL (No Fun League) and is going to throw the yellow flag every time you step out of line, but God knows you better than you know you. So there are times when God uses the Holy Spirit, other people, and sometime our environment to do course corrections in our life. It is in this love relationship that we are truly set free to be who we were created to be!
So who or what are you chained to today? As for me and my house, I’m chaining my life to the one who created me and always has my best at the center of his heart! Jesus Over Everything!
