YO! Let’s talk about Christmas for a second. I love Christmas. I have ever since I was little. The lights, the sounds, the joyfulness in the air, the gift giving, all of it. I remember as a kid making my “Christmas list.” That magical list of things you couldn’t live without so much that you write them down and hope someone fulfills your desire. And I remember each year sitting down with my list with such hope that all of my requests would be met. But as I sit here writing this I can’t help but think “Where is that Hope in our prayer lives?”
Prayer now a days seems very ritual. Not that there is anything wrong with ritual, but our prayer lives were never meant to be a routine to check off the list or something we just do because we’ve always done it. Prayer is SO important in our relationship with God! Prayer is our direct connection with the all-knowing, all creating, all powerful God who created the universe and everything in it!
God wants to hear from you! He longs to commune with His creation. That’s the whole reason Jesus came and died for us on the cross! So that we could once again be directly connected with the Father who loves us! And prayer is us being in communion with Him.
So many believers today do not think about or practice prayer enough. And I’ve heard so many believers say that they don’t feel connected to God but then hear them say they don’t pray except the occasional 9-1-1 prayer. And all I can think is “Well no wonder you don’t feel connected! It’s hard to feel connected to someone when you don’t talk to them!” I mean think about it this way; Say you are in a relationship or if you are already in a relationship think about what that relationship would be like if you two never talked or connected with each other. Would that relationship last? Would you feel connected with that other person? NO! That would be a terrible relationship! And it works the same way with our relationship with God. God wants to fill you, connect with you, talk with you. The creator of the universe wants to talk with you! Wow!
God loves us so much! I cannot state that enough. And He wants to not only hear from you but He wants to know your desires and wants to fulfill them so that He may be glorified in your life! That is why we should not only pray continually, but we should also pray SPECIFIC prayers!
We need to have faith that God can work the little miracles in our lives, that when we pray He does care about us and our desires.
What is something specific you long to see God do in your life?
What is something specific you long to see God do in your family, friends, school, community?
Remember to take time today to give thanks to God for what He has done in your life. Remember to pray for specific things. Remember to pray in Jesus name having faith that He works all things out for good and that He LOVES you!
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
