I’m Going Deeper

Our guest writer today is Ian McCarty. Ian is a freshman in high school. Great job Ian, keep letting God take you deeper!

“What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision? Much in every way! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God. What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.” But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.) Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world? Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?” Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just!”

Romans 3:1-8 NIV

Hey, I hope everyone is doing good! Today I prayed that God would give me a verse to help me find peace. I opened my Bible, and flipped through the pages and read different verses. I stumbled upon Romans 3:1-8, and God really used this verse.

God is faithful! He never forsakes us, He never lets us down, and He also keeps His promises! Humans aren’t able to check off those boxes!

God- Never forsakes us ✅

Never lets us down ✅

Keeps His promises ✅

Humans- Never forsake one another ❌

Never let each other down ❌

Always keep our promises ❌

God is always chasing us! Always! He’s always seeking to go deeper with us. I believe that in America, we tend to put comfort before God. We do faith when it’s comfortable. Yet that’s not what the Bible says. People were killed, tortured, exiled, nailed to a cross BECAUSE OF THEIR FAITH!!! That’s not comfortable, but it’s not supposed to be comfortable. Sometimes relationships with friends aren’t comfortable. It’s the same way with God. When we put comfort before God, our relationships with God are surface-level. About a year ago, God challenged me. He said that He wanted to take me deeper than ever before. I was like, “Yes!” That’s exciting, right? Well, I cried out to God, asking Him to take me deep. God took me deep! Over the past year, God has challenged me to walk upon the water with Him. And it’s not easy at times. Here’s the thing. How can God show me His faithfulness if I don’t surrender complete control to Him? God has used every single day to show His faithfulness. I believe that peace, God’s peace, is found upon the water, walking hand in hand with God. When I am totally and completely surrendered to God is when I am completely and totally at peace. He is faithful, and He is great! Yes, I fall like Peter. Yes, I make mistakes like Jonah. But God is there, holding out His hand to me, ready to pull me up out. He dusts me up, gives me a hug, and keeps walking with me. He and I are walking upon the water, together, hand in hand, because He is faithful.

So here is the challenge

1. How does God want to take you deeper in your relationship with Him? Maybe it’s just reading your Bible everyday for five minutes. Maybe it’s helping your mom with chores. Ask God in what way(s) does He want to take you deeper.

2. How has God taken you deeper in your relationship with Him? Maybe a friend or family member needs to hear what God has done in your life. If you reflect on periods of your life, then you can see God’s faithfulness and how He never leaves us.

3. Trust in Him. Sometimes the hardest thing for us to do is to give control to God. Satan wants to scare us and make us think we can do things better than God. We can’t. Trust in Him, and allow Him to take you deep.

4. Thank Him. Thank God that He is a good God, and that He never forsakes us, and that He is willing to take us deep!

Have a great day!

Thanks, Ian McCarty
