This week we have had guest writers, this week our very own worship team leader Mrs. Kristen Hofer is our guest writer. She is writing to challenge us to find our image in God and not in those around us.
Genesis 1:27 ESV
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them
There was a time in my life as a teenager that I forgot that I was made in the image of God. My perception of what image means was skewed. I thought that I had to look like, talk like and be like all the people around me. No matter what they wore, what they talked like or who they were hanging out with, I needed to be doing just that. On the outside I “looked” cool or as we say now days “woke”, but on the inside I was a mess.
Let’s look at what it means to be created in the image of God.
God made us to look just like himself. He is perfect and wanted us to look just as perfect and act as perfect as himself. Of course Adam and Eve took care of the perfect part right away in the Garden. Just to think that God loves us so much that he wanted us to be like him should make your heart quiver with love for him and if you love Him then you should love yourself.
Easier said then done, I know.
We have been talking a lot about prayer recently and the subject just keeps coming up. Our identity or image can be found just by spending time with the Father on a regular basis. We should never worry about such earthly things like what we wear or who we talk to. The more time we spend with him the more he rubs off on us. Remember those days you spend with your friends and you start talking alike? It can happen that way with God just as easily. The people we hang out with and the language we use on a daily basis will change when God has permeated our life. When that happens your image has changed and people will notice.
So stop worrying about what is cool and what others may think of you. Be more concerned with your relationship with the one who made you in His image. Spend more time with Him. Read the word that will connect you with Him. You will not only notice that the outside image concerns have gone away but you also find that your inside will no longer be that mess that it was before.
