Today we are praying through the second half of the Beatitudes. My hope and challenge is that you will spend time today, this Good Friday 2018, praying through and asking Jesus to show you how and the Holy Spirit to empower you to live out the Beatitudes in your everyday life.
“”Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”
Lord help us to see people with merciful eyes. Not as people who have different skin or ideals or politics or sins than we do, but help us to see people the way you see them; as children of the living God. Created in God’s image. Help us to see people as broken and as people who need mercy, just as we ourselves need mercy! May we be givers and receivers of the mercies of God!
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
A pure heart is what we long for today Jesus! A heart without outside motive. A heart without a list or rights and wrongs. A heart full of grace and love. A heart that doesn’t boast or brag. A heart that service selflessly. A heart that breaks for what breaks you heart oh God! Help us to see in ourselves those things in our heart that are not pure. Give us the strength to get rid of those things in our heart that are not of pure motive. God help us to see you through our pure heart.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
Help us to not see everyone and everything as an “us against them” scenario. Help us to be peacemakers in a world that chooses sides more than empathizes. Help us know when to not speak. Help us know when to listen. Help us know when to have empathy. Help us to know when to hold back the hand of judgement and lend out the hand of peace. Father we want to be sons and daughters of You! We want to be the peacemakers!
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
When the time comes, help us to stand for what is right even in the face of persecution. Not to feel persecuted or to get indignant about something that didn’t effect us, but to be the type of people that will stand up for righteousness even if it costs us something. Father help us to stop being keyboard activist. To sit behind a keyboard and type out indignation, but help us to be people of righteous lives. Give us the power of the Holy Spirit to be wise to know the difference and the strength to stand up when it’s time! May Your kingdom come and may Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven! Amen!
May you listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit today and for the rest of your days!
