Fruits of the Spirit: Peace

Galatians 5:22-23 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

The Peace of God By Ian McCarty

Close your eyes and take three deep breaths. Breath in good things like calmness and peace. Exhale any fears, worries, or things weighing you down. You probably feel better after those three breaths. Why? Because you have chosen to remain steady and calm. Even if it was only for those three breaths, you chose to release your burdens. Instead of choosing to worry, you chose to be calm and at peace. Now, your worries aren’t dissipated. They are still very real, and your burdens are still very heavy. It may feel like your burdens are too heavy. Well, Christ has an answer. Peace. One word. Peace. You see, the storm of life may be circulating around you. All around you is evil, pain, and despair.

However, the Bible says this: ““I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”” John 16:33 NIV

As long as we are in this world, life happens. There’s no denying that fact. Recently I heard a quote that says, “Courage isn’t found in the absence of fear, but in the presence of God.” Fears may be constantly hitting you from all directions. The key thing to remember is that God is the One in control. He’s the One that holds you. He is the One that won’t let go of you! You see, we have to surrender ourselves to Him, trusting that He is in control and won’t let us down. Life is going to happen. However, when God is our Rock and when we let Him control, then we can face every challenge, every fear, and every power of darkness with the peace that only He gives. Latch onto Him, let Him hold you, and surrender to Him. Then you can live in complete calm and peace, knowing He is in control and won’t let you down.

The Challenge

Pray to God and ask Him to hold you. Give complete control of your life to Him. Surrender all your fears to Him. Let Him know what’s going on, what you are scared of. Then choose to trust Him and walk by faith in Him, letting Him hold you. Walk out every day with complete confidence and trust in Him, refusing to give in to the lies of the enemy, and refusing to worry about the storms of this world and refusing to worry about what the world throws at you.

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:7 NIV
